  18. The Amazon Villa

Offered as an exclusive bungalow in the Amazon Rainforest of Peru’s Tambopata National Reserve, the Amazon Villa sits in the reserve’s buffer zone. Enjoy privately guided expeditions into the surrounding rainforest to find an incredible diversity of Amazon Rainforest animals and plants. The Amazon Villa itself offers a very large and comfortable bed, a hot water bath, a television to watch nature documentaries, laptop space to catch up on work or view photos, WiFi internet, electricity in the rainforest, as well as a refrigerator and microwave. You can choose to enjoy private dinners at the Amazon Villa or you can visit the nearby Refugio Amazonas Lodge if you would like to socialise with other rainforest guests. Enjoy privately guided tours of the Amazon Rainforest to find a range of interesting animals, such as howler monkeys, titi monkeys, tamarins, macaw parrots, toucans, caiman crocodilians, agoutis, and more. You will also see the tall emergent trees, delicate orchids, and the bromeliads and other epiphytes clinging to the branches. As one of the favorite attractions, you can also visit the Chuncho clay lick where you can see hundreds of colourful macaw parrots gathered at the clay. 19. Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica

Nestled in the Amazon Rainforest of Puerto Maldonado in the southern Peruvian rainforest, Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica offers one of the most luxurious hotels in the Amazon rainforest. Although there is less wildlife in the rainforest directly surrounding the lodge, the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica still offers a fantastic experience for visitors who want to prioritize comfort and who aren’t interested in a ‘deep rainforest’ experience. The Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica offers a choice of suite and room types, such as the Tambopata Suite with plunge pool, the Amazonica Suite, and the comfortable cabañas. The Reserva Amazonica design was inspired by the local Ese’Eja culture, which is the largest native community in the region. There are 35 wooden cabañas in total, which each offer very comfortable accommodation. In addition to the rooms and suites, the Reserva Amazonica also has an Eco Center. This area is where you can choose from a range of ‘a la carte’ activities. The activities and excursions include experiencing the canopy walkway, a guided tour of the beautiful Sandoval Lake, rainforest walks along the trails, and even a night walk to find some different nocturnal animals. The Reserva Amazonica also offers the Ena Spa where you can relax with a massage or spa treatment surrounded by the rainforest. Although the area of rainforest isn’t as wildlife-rich as the areas near lodges closer to the Tambopata National Reserve, such as the Amazon Villa above, Refugio Amazonas, or the deep Tambopata Research Center, the Reserva Amazonica rainforest contains a high number of bird species. A total of 540 different birds have been spotted on the Reserva Amazonica hotel grounds, which is the same number of birds as found in many temperate countries.

  20. The Refugio Amazonas Lodge

The Refugio Amazonas Lodge offers a variety of different suites in the buffer zone of the wildlife-rich Tambopata National Reserve of Peru’s southern Amazon Rainforest. Given the suite options, the lodge can cater for guests looking for different levels of comfort. For luxury accommodation, the Refugio Amazonas Lodge offers the fantastic Amazonia Suites. From the Refugio Amazonas Lodge, enjoy guided tours of the surrounding rainforest to see a diversity of animals and plants of Amazonia. Enjoy spotting the many different monkeys, colourful birds, delicate orchids, and the tall emergent trees. The Refugio Amazonas also offers a tall 30 meter canopy tower to see over the rainforest and to spot different parrots and toucans making their way over the rainforest. Some guests even get lucky to see different monkeys high in the canopy.

In addition to fantastic guided tours through the rainforest along the many different trails, you can visit different small clay licks to see small mammals and parrots. If you choose the recommended ‘a la carte’ option, you can also visit the large Chuncho Clay lick where you can see hundreds of macaw parrots gathered at the clay. There are also some excellent cultural activities to enjoy, such as visiting a Brazil nut concession, visiting a jungle farm, and walking and ethnobotanical trail to see how rainforest communities live in the Amazon.

The Refugio Amazonas Lodge is also a great place for families, as the lodge has one of the only children’s trails in the Amazon Rainforest. The trail helps teach children in a relatable way about this incredible environment. The lodge also offers a spa where you can enjoy a massage surrounded by the rainforest. Choose from a variety of rainforest influenced treatments to relax after some fantastic guided expeditions to find different animals and plants.

In addition to the wildlife and cultural excursions, the ‘a la carte’ option offers a variety of adventure activities, such as kayaking, jungle mountain biking, paddle boarding, and canopy climbing.
