The Posada Amazonas Lodge Tour

At the Posada Amazonas Lodge, enjoy a comfortable experience of Peru’s Amazon Rainforest from Puerto Maldonado.

Because of the position inside the Ese’Eja’s community reserve, the lodge is a good choice for a 3 or 4-day Amazon tour.

To begin your experience, you will be met at Puerto Maldonado airport and you will be escorted to the reserve. This begins with a 1-hour road trip followed by a tranquil 1-hour boat ride up the Tambopata River. Even on this journey you will experience the sounds and sights of Amazonia.

On your Posada Amazonas Amazon tour, explore the rainforest led by members of the native Ese’Eja community. With your local guide, you will explore the diverse forest to find Amazon wildlife and enjoy cultural activities.

Highlights of your tour include:

  • The nearby parrot clay lick
  • Guided lake tours
  • The canopy tower

Enjoy guided rainforest trails to find different monkeys and birds. The Posada Amazonas also offers one of the highest chances of seeing giant river otters.

The lodge itself is composed of five wings of six rooms. And there are different accommodation options to choose from. These range from the Comfort Suites to the premium Suites. The rooms are connected by a raised boardwalk. And this means the rainforest is left as untouched as possible. For example, the animals can still wander unobstructed through the forest. All of the bathrooms at the Posada Amazonas are private and have hot flowing water.

There is also a small wellness center. This is where you can enjoy a massage or aromatherapy treatment to relax with the sounds of the rainforest.

This trail not only offers a visual feast of wildlife but also an educational journey through the jungle's botanical treasures. You’ll learn about the vast variety of plants native to this area and their traditional uses in healing, which are deeply embedded in the local culture. These plants are essential to the indigenous people, serving as food, medicine, clothing, and building materials.

In the Peruvian Amazon, traditional medicinal practices are alive and well, with many locals still turning to their shaman for remedies to ailments ranging from insomnia to more serious conditions like cancer. As you navigate the trail, the knowledge shared will open your eyes to the ingenious uses of these plants, providing a deeper understanding of the connection between the local community and their natural environment.

This visit not only offers insights into the methods of organic farming in the rainforest but also introduces you to a way of life deeply ingrained in the local community. Many of our lodge guides, hailing from nearby communities, have grown up practicing jungle farming. While ecotourism has recently flourished in Tambopata, agriculture—cultivating bananas, papaya, yucca, and traditional local plants used for centuries—remains a cornerstone of local livelihoods.

The Jungle Farm Visit is an opportunity to meet local farmers, experience the rich tastes of jungle produce directly from an organic farm, and understand the deep pride locals have in their heritage and farming traditions. They are eager to share their knowledge and lifestyle with visitors, offering a genuine peek into the heart of rainforest culture.
