Game Drives
The Sanbona Reserve is an excellent area to spot African wildlife. Home to the Big 5 and iconic animals, enjoy 3-hour game drives around the reserve to find the lions, giraffes, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, and more.
The Sanbona Reserve project is to restore the balance of nature that existed here long ago. The comfortable land cruisers for game viewing traverse three different biomes of the Sanbona Reserve to find the different wildlife. With knowledgeable and experienced Sanbona rangers, spot the various animals on early morning or sunset drives.
Please note – no persons under 4 years of age are permitted to join game drives.
Birding
There are over 200 different birds in the Sanbona Reserve. A great area for bird lovers is the bank of the Bellair Dam where over 40 species can be seen in this one spot. Some favorite species to spot include the booted eagles, cinnamon-breasted warblers, black-winged stilts, namaqua sandgrouse, jackal buzzards, and Ludwigs bustards.
Walking Trails
A favorite activity in the Sanbona Reserve, on walking safaris experience Africa as an early explorer. Walk the Little Karoo to find a diversity of animals and plants on foot. There are many nature walks through the reserve where the Sanbona rangers will guide you while telling interesting information about the reserve, its wildlife, and the region’s history.

See Ancient Rock Art
The Sanbona Reserve has seven known sites for rock art dating to around 3,500 years ago. The rock art depicts the lives of the San and the Khoi-Khoi people who lived in the region until around 100 years ago. The different groups have their own style and focus the paintings on different parts of their lives.
