Tour
We will travel 200 miles from Manaus into the Amazon Rainforest exploring Amazon tributaries en route. This is what sets our cruises apart from the others as we explore the forest at its most untouched. On the last day of our voyage, we will visit one of the famous sights of Manaus, the meeting of the waters. This is where the Rio Negro and Amazon River meet and run side by side for many miles. Because of the differences in sediment and water flow, the light brown and dark water run next to each other without mixing. On the Tucano Cruise, you will also visit homes of deep forest settlers where you can chat about their way of life and hear about plants they utilize for medicine and food.
Flooded Forest
We will visit the flooded forest of the Amazon Rainforest where the water claims the land on a seasonal basis. This is where epiphytes, such as orchids and bromeliads hang to the branches. We will visit terra firme and varzea forests to see colorful birds, monkeys, and magnificent rainforest trees.
Tucano Cruise Expeditions
All cruises have a maximum of 18 passengers to ensure we stay focused on nature and the rainforest. We divide into smaller groups guided by our on board naturalist guides.
Although we make the most of our time in the Amazon, there will be plenty of opportunities to relax on the Tucano. We will enjoy swimming in the clean, refreshing river as the Rio Negro is almost identical to rainwater. Our trips take place in one of the least inhabited parts of the Amazon, in the State of Amazonas, Brazil, one of the most pristine areas in all Amazonia.
Tucano Amazon Cruise Daily Schedule
The schedule varies each day, but you do follow a rough outline of activities. Every morning you wake with the sun to search for wildlife in small boats or trek through the forest in search of howler monkeys. You can then return mid-morning for a full Brazilian breakfast, relax, and go on another excursion into the forest. At around noon, the vessel gets underway and we travel until late afternoon, when most animals come out again to feed. About two hours before sunset, you can embark on an excursion to some other place of interest. In the evenings we have an informal talk about what we expect to see the following day. Some evenings, from the comfort of the small boats, we will spot wildlife with powerful searchlights.
