Activities
Enjoy a range of activities aboard the Au Co. These provide a little more uniqueness and exclusivity than most activities offered in Halong Bay.
Kayaking in Halong Bay
Kayak and explore a secluded section of the bay. Explore the islets, karst towers and rocky outcrops. Or you can simply relax in the calm waters enjoying the incredible scenery up close. Kayaking is offered for Ba Ham Lake and Dark & Bright caves. The Au Co is equipped with beginner friendly kayaks, which are easy to control ( sit-on-top kayaks).
Biking at Viet Hai Village
The cycling activity is one of the favorite options aboard the Au Co Cruise. Enjoy relaxed, guided cycling to Viet Hai Village. This is a traditional village surrounded by jungle and spectacular views. The cycleway is paved with a clean path and gentle slopes. And the total distance for biking is around 5 km. The village itself has a population of 213 people and stretches across a 86.25 km² area. In addition to cycling, guests can choose to be driven by a village by a local in an electric cart.
Visiting Limestone Caves
Halong Bay's limestone caves are the iconic feature of the bay. These impressive caves are covered in stalactites, stalagmites and a diverse composition of rock. The Surprise Caves and others were formed in a 500 million year process creating a spectacular feature of Halong Bay. Surprise Cave is the largest of the Halong caves and covers an impressive 10,000 sqm.
Visiting a Community Farm
One of the proud features on the activity list is a visit to the community farm. To help support the small village, the Au Co Cruise has helped build a community farm providing the villagers with jobs and an income. The ingredients are then brought back aboard the cruise and into the kitchen for meals in the Au Co restaurant. The vegetables are seasonal and grown with traditional methods, which means no pesticides or other chemicals. Some of the vegetables you can find on the farm include sweet potatoes, cucumbers and jicama.
Halong Bay Pristine & Secluded Beach
This is a fantastic opportunity to relax on a secluded beach where the cruise company has exclusive access. Enjoy swimming in the clear and shallow waters or relax on the sands enjoying the scenery. These are small beaches and a good size for our guests. The beach is positioned between the mountains and offers spectacular views of the bay.
Trekking - Halong Bay - Cat Ba Island
Guided trekking is offered on the 3-day / 2-night itinerary. You will visit Cat Ba Island, which is the largest island in Halong Bay. This island covers an area of 354 sq km and features beautiful green forests, limestone mountains and karst caves. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and endemic plants and animals. Part of the island is protected as a national park and many species are listed in the World Red Book. The most iconic animal is the Cat Ba Langur, which the cruise helps with different conservation projects.
Meet the Locals
Enjoy an insightful tour of the village where you can interact with the friendly villagers. Life in this village keeps to many traditional ways of life. The tight-knit community offers a glimpse into an authentic and traditional culture. You will also visit an architectural marvel built by a talented local artist in the same style as houses of hundreds of years ago.
